Dash Cam Memory Cards

CHOOSING THE RIGHT MEMORY CARD

Choosing the right memory card is crucial to the overall performance of your dash cam. We're here to help make your shopping easier by providing top-rated memory cards for your dash cam. Here's what to look for:

Storage Capacity

Depending on your needs and how much you want to record, the chart below shows the approximate recording time you will get from their respective memory capacity.

<
Capacity & Recording Time
Capacity Recording Time
16 GB 2 hours
32 GB 3 Hours
64 GB 7 Hours
128 GB 14 Hours

Your dash cam's bit rate will also determine how big the files are and how much you can record. The chart illustrated is a rough estimate. To learn more about bit rates click here.

Tip: Remember that dash cams have a loop recording feature so getting a bigger card won't affect its recording, only overall recording time.

Speed and Rating

Speed plays an integral role when transferring, reading and writing data.

UHS Speed

UHS speed improves the overall write speed. This is noticeable when taking photos in succession, as illustrated in the video.

Class Rating

The class rating can be found on the front of your microSD. MicroSD cards with a class rating of 10 are recommended.

MLC vs TLC

Flash Type
MLC (Multi-Level Cell) TLC (Triple-Level Cell)
Read/Write Cylces 8,000-10,000 3,000-5,000
Bit Per Cell 2 3

There are 2 types NAND flash; MLC & TLC.

MLC: Multi Level Cell stores multi bits of data on one cell. The read/write life cycle is considerably higher.
Pros: More reliable and durable than TLC flash.

TLC: Triple Level Cell stores 3 bits of data per cell. The read/write life cycle of TLC flash is considerably shorter.
Pros: Cheaper
